The subjects covered by our Professional Services modules include many modules relevant to caring for the elderly:

Basic Nutrition

This module is a basic introduction to nutrition.  The aim of the training is to a) give learners a better understanding of the composition of a healthy diet and b) teach them about the functional role of macro and micro nutrients in the human body

Malnutrition

The following topics are discussed in this module:

  • Prevalence of malnutrition
  • Causes
  • Consequences
  • Costs associated with malnutrition
  • Management

MUST

This module covers nutritional screening of patients using the Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool.  Food fortification and basic care plans for patients identified as malnourished is discussed.

Bowel Health

This informative module, specifically aimed at carers of elderly in institutionalised care covers the following topics:

  • Defining irregular bowel function
  • Causes and Consequences of poor bowel health
  • Use of soluble dietary fibre to manage bowel function

Wound Care

This modules reviews wound care and the importance of nutrition in wound healing.  Topics covered include:

  • Stages of wound healing
  • Costs associated with wound care
  • Role of nutrition in wound healing
